I define individuation as the finding of oneself. Individuation can be looked at through a physical, emotional, or spiritual lens. During many points throughout our lives we may feel the need to reinvent ourselves. When you are a child, it can be easy to determine your sense of self, which is often surrounded by what we are good at versus what we are not. Either we’re an athlete or a musician, a socializer or a loner, active or solitary. As we get older, things become a bit more complicated. The more life we go through, the more we can feel as though we’re unsure of who we want to be and can instead become what we think we’re supposed to be. The various ups and downs that life throws us along with the normal transitions everyone faces can make each of us struggle through each of these questions.
I assist clients in finding themselves again. Perhaps they have been through a recent ending of a relationship and struggle with finding who they are outside of that partnership. Others perhaps are transitioning from one time in their life to the next and need to figure out who they are and where they want to be going on their journey. Whatever the reason, individuals can always benefit from self-exploration and as a counselor, I am happy to facilitate this process.
